Newly Formed RARE Advisory Board (RAB)
In January 2024, the RARE Board of Directors voted to create an Advisory Board to enlarge their circle of talented people who will help move the needle forward towards racial equity. Our two charter members of this team will be familiar to many of you, as they have contributed to the Greater Seattle communities for most of their adult lives.
Dr. Kyle Kinoshita
Kyle is the 2023 recipient of the University (of Washington) Council for Educational Administration Excellence in Educational Leadership Award. He previously was awarded the same recognition in 2004. He is a career educator and affiliate faculty member of the UW L4L doctoral program, and the UW Bothell LEDE principal preparation program.
He is currently the president of the Seattle Chapter Japanese American Citizens League.
Previous experience includes serving the Seattle Public Schools as Chief of Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction, and Executive Director of Teaching and Learning in the Marysville School District. He also served as principal in the Edmonds and Highline school districts. Kyle has been associated with RARE since 2021.
Martha Choe
Martha brings extensive experience in the private, public, and philanthropic sectors. Most recently, she served as the CAO and Director of Global Libraries at the Bill & Melinda Gates. Previously, she was the Director of the Washington State Department of Community, Trade, and Economic Development. Prior to that, she served two terms on the Seattle City Council, was a vice president at the Bank of California and started her career as a high school teacher and debate coach in Eugene, Oregon.
Prior board experience includes Craft3, The Seattle Foundation, Western Washington University, Seattle University, and she served as chair of the White House Commission on Asian American and Pacific Islanders. Martha holds a BA in speech education and ethnic studies from the University of Washington and an MBA from Seattle University. She is an ordained Zen Priest.
