Multiply Your Contribution to Racial Equity!
Most employers, large and small, corporate and government, recognize giving as an important employee benefit. These employers understand and support their employees’ time, money and skills to help nonprofits achieve their missions.
Employee Giving and Employer Matching Gift Programs vary from organization to organization. Generally, all full-time employees can participate. Sometimes part-time and even retired employees can also participate. Some organizations allow employee volunteer hours to count toward employer matching (matching volunteer hours to an hourly match rate). Some employers match an employee’s donation one to one. A few match up to five to one. See organization examples below.
If you are employed by the government, for example Washington State (including the UW) or King County, you can take advantage of its payroll deduction program to make automatic recurring donations from each paycheck. It is the easiest program to set up and the easiest on your monthly budget. Recurring monthly donations also help nonprofits plan their annual budget, rather than relying on fund raisers which may fluctuate from year to year.
If you work for a corporation, chances are it has both a payroll deduction program and a matching gift program (a matching gift is a grant made to a qualifying tax-exempt or charitable organization to match eligible employee donations).
You can do a quick search here (select ‘new search’ and enter your organization’s name) but your best bet is to check with your HR department to understand its program details and how to sign up.
Please consider using your employer’s giving programs to simplify and amplify your contribution to RARE!
